HYPE Helps You Pass Everything

Need help in your classes? Want to study for finals? Or do you just need a little push to understand a hard concept? Then the HYPE club is for you!

On every day of the week, the Help You Pass Everything club (HYPE) helps students in the subject areas of english, math, history, science, foreign languages and others. There are peer tutors available around the clock to help with homework, classwork, and projects.

HYPE at MHHS was built upon a club that was first started at Kimball High School. The president, Gillann Buena, who had attended Kimball for the past three years, was inspired by the way HYPE was helping struggling students to thrive in their classes.

“I was a part of HYPE Club at Kimball and I saw how [many] people they were helping and I wanted to continue that here, at Mountain House High School,” Buena, a senior, told me in an interview last week. “My favorite part of this club is helping people. I love helping others.”

The results are already showing after just one semester.

“HYPE has helped me become a better student in English. It [has] helped me understand more grammar and how to tackle main purposes in specifics passages.The English helped me for my school work and my SATs," said Jeromo Fulgado, also a senior.

After getting helped out in English, Fulgado tutors students in their math classes, from Math 1 all the way to Calculus AB.

The advisor, Ms. Sullivan, loves what she is doing while she helps tutor students.

“I love knowing that I am giving the students an opportunity to help themselves and others in a safe environment. We have a good time while we learn and I couldn't ask for more," said Sullivan

HYPE meets every lunch in Room C204. Mondays are reserved for English and history; Tuesdays for science, and Wednesdays for math, Spanish, and French. Thursdays and Fridays are free days that are open for any subject.

HYPE is also accepting new tutors for all subject areas.
